East Holton Driving Centre
is a member group of the National Riding for the Disabled Association.
Our objective is to provide the facilities for those who, for various
reasons, may not otherwise be able to do so, to learn to drive in
our delightful area. Our participants have a wide range of disabilities
and they all enjoy the driving at whatever level, which is the most
important thing. Many people come closest to spiritual presence
while out and about in Nature, and what better way to do that than
in one of Ashtree Stables' carriages.
The Trustees hold responsibility for managing the group and ensuring
that all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with
RDA strict guidelines. All instructors, horses and equipment are
approved to RDA specifications. Carts specially adapted to carry
wheelchairs are used and all drives are escorted. Every drive is
carefully suited to the client from a gentle ride or drive, to a
lesson in dressage or cone driving. Second reins are provided to
enable the participant to learn to drive.
A team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers and carers runs
every operation. A small charge is made which helps to offset the
high operating costs for horses and equipment.
